Convert Units in the Notepad, Catalog, or Estimate

Use the Convert feature to convert the units of all items in the NotePad, Catalog, or Estimate tabs. For example, you could convert linear feet (LF) to yards (YD) everywhere in your estimate.

The estimate job must be in Exclusive mode to convert units in the NotePad, Catalog, and Estimate tabs. Click Set Job Exclusive to set Exclusive mode.

If you convert units in the Catalog tab, you have the option of converting the units in the entire catalog or just in the folder that is currently selected.

You cannot convert to units that are not the same type of unit. For example, you cannot convert linear feet (LF) to square yards (SY). You can convert from linear feet (LF) to yards (YD). If you want to convert unlike unit types using formulas, you must use the Formulas feature of the Calculator for each item you want to convert. See Calculator for more information.

In the Catalog and Estimate tabs, you have the option of updating the unit cost of the cost items when you convert the units. When you update the unit cost, you don't change the extended cost of the cost items.

CAUTION: If you convert units in the Estimate window and an assembly has a Quantity of 0 (zero), the members of the assembly won't be converted correctly. Only the units of the assembly members will be changed. You will need to manually enter the appropriate Quantity for each member of the assembly.

To open a job in the Manage Estimates screen, click Estimating > Estimating > Manage Estimates in the All Tasks pane. Then select the job you want to open, and click OK.
