Item Category screen

Use the Item Category screen to define categories to classify your inventory items. Categories are required for equipment costing since inventory items have to be associated with a category. The item category information also links general ledger accounts for order processing (revenue items) and cost of goods sold (expense items). You must create at least one item category in ProContractor. Use the Default Category screen to set default values for new item categories.

All item categories are available throughout ProContractor. They are not tied to any single company.

To open the Item Category screen, click Materials > Setup > Item Category in the All Tasks pane.

Note: The Item Category screen is a step in the materials setup process. The Unit of Measure screen is the next step.
