I am missing some features of the View and Markup tool

There few reasons why you may be missing certain features of the View and Mark Up tool.

If you are missing the Annotate / Add Markup buttons entirely, it is likely that the Add Markup function is locked down via a workflow or by permissions.

  • If the document is in a workflow, it may not have the Allow Markup Creation check box selected on the current decision node. Try waiting until it advances to a different decision node and see if the options become available.
  • If the document is not in a workflow, or the Annotate / Add Markup buttons still do not appear after the document reaches the end of its workflow, you likely do not have the necessary permissions to add a markup to the document. Please contact the administrator for the enterprise you are working in to get the necessary permissions.

If you can add a markup but the tool seems to be missing some of the buttons you need, your browser or settings may be causing you to use the HTML5 version rather than ActiveX. The HTML5 version does not provide all of the same capabilities as the ActiveX version. For more information on the differences, click here.

  • Make sure you're using a browser that is compatible with ActiveX. Currently, compatible browsers include Internet Explorer 9 - 11 and Microsoft Edge.
  • Ensure the preferred version of the Viewer is set to either ACTIVEX or DETECT in your personal settings. Instructions on how to do this are located here.
