How to Apply an SSL Certificate to Your Portal

In order for your portal to be available externally, you must acquire an SSL Certificate and apply it to the portal website.

Note: SSL certificates may be applied to portals that are for internal use only. If you have an SSL certificate applied to a portal that is for internal use, leave the configuration for that portal as internal-only.
  1. Follow the directions provided by your Certificate Authority to install your SSL Certificate. You will find additional instructions here.
  2. On the server where your portal is installed, open IIS Manager.
  3. Expand Sites, and select the HRIM site.
  4. On the menu on the right, select Bindings.
  5. Select Edit Bindings, and then select Add New.
  6. Select HTTPS from the Type dropdown.
Note: By selecting HTTPS, the portal will default to port 443. If another application already occupies port 443, you will need to enter an alternative port and open your firewall to inbound requests on that port. When end users access the portal, they will need to include the alternative port number in the URL. For example, if the alternative port is 444, users would access: https://[your portal URL].com:444/.
Note: If Vista occupies port 443, you can install it on port 444, which frees up port 443 if you would like your employees to log into the portal without having to enter the port number. Vista support being installed on port 444.
  7. Enter the Host name associated with your SSL certificate.
If you are using a wildcard certificate, you can enter any text in place of the * portion of the certificate name.
  8. Select the SSL certificate from the dropdown.
  9. Select OK.
  10. Update the portal setting Portal URL located under Admin > Portal Settings > Administration / Initial Setup > General Configuration.
Note: If using an alternate port, include the portal number. For example, https://myportalurl.com:8282. Alternate ports work with the mobile application too.
