Relationship Custom Combo Box

If you want the Relationship field for Dependents or Emergency Contacts to be pre-defined, you can set up a custom combo box in Vista.

If no custom combo box is applied, the Relationship field is available for freeform text entry.
  1. In Vista, select Viewpoint Administration > Programs > VA Custom Field Combo Boxes.
  2. Create a new combo box on the Grid tab.


  3. Select the Items tab, and add the options that should be available from the Relationship dropdown when users add dependents or emergency contacts.
  4. Assign the combo box to the appropriate portal settings:
    • For Dependents, enter the name of the combo box in Custom combo box type to bind dependent relationship types found under Admin > Portal Settings > Dependents > General Configuration.
    • For Benefits, enter the name of the combo box in Custom combo box type to bind dependent relationship types found under Admin > Portal Settings > Personal Information > General Configuration.
    Note: You can use the same combo box for both fields, or use a unique combo box for each one. Leaving either portal setting blank will allow users to enter freeform text.
