Income Tax Table screen

Use the Income Tax Table screen to provide all of the necessary information to calculate federal, state, provincial, local, and miscellaneous income taxes. For each payroll tax authority in which you file, create an income tax table for every withholding status that is used with that payroll tax authority.

To open the Income Tax Table screen, select Employees > Setup > Taxes & Insurance > Income Tax Table in the All Tasks pane.

Tip: In a payroll tax authority with only one withholding status, create an income tax table for the Single withholding status. In Canada, all payroll tax authorities have only one withholding status, so ProContractor uses the Single income tax table for the payroll tax authority regardless of an employee's withholding status.

Tax table information is available on the Viewpoint Customer Portal. Tax tables are updated as information becomes available from each tax authority. Viewpoint recommends that you subscribe to the tax tables you use on the Viewpoint Customer Portal so that you are notified when the information changes.

In addition to the standard variable tables, such as the federal tables, you can create tax tables for payroll tax authorities with a flat tax amount that is not dependent on employee earnings.

For example, let's say a local tax authority has a $52 per year tax that needs to be withheld weekly. Create an income tax table for the tax authority and set it up as follows:

Set the following fields on the General tab:

FIT Deduction Type = After

Weekly Tax Limit =1.00

Enter details in the Brackets tab as follows:
Bracket NumberWages OverBase Tax AmountTax Rate

Note: The Income Tax Table screen is a step in the employee setup process. The next step can vary:
  • In the United States, the Utilization Region screen is the next step.
  • In Canada, the Insurance Class screen is the next step.
