Edit a Document Live in Team

If your company uses Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, you can edit a Team document (.docx, .pptx, or .xlsx) in Microsoft Office for the web.

When you edit a document using Microsoft Office for the web, changes are saved automatically, and a new document version is created once you close the editing session.
Note: If you are a Viewpoint Team user in China, you no longer have the option to open documents for viewing or editing purposes using Microsoft Office for the web, as the Microsoft integration with Team is no longer supported in your geography.

  1. From the home page, under Projects, select the name of the project you want to open.
    Alternatively, go to the main menu in the upper left-hand corner, select Projects, and then select the name of the project you want to open.
    The Dashboard for the project appears.
  2. Select the Documents tab.
  3. Navigate to the document you want to edit.
  4. Select the document you want to edit. The document opens in Microsoft Office for the web in your browser.
    Alternatively, you can select Edit in Word, Edit in PowerPoint, or Edit in Excel to open the document.

    Note: When you first open a Microsoft Office document in Team, a user agreement message appears. Review and the agreement and accept to proceed. If you decline the agreement, and later want to accept it, you can do so at any time by going to the User Profile page and selecting the Enable Microsoft Office Online Document Editing option.   5. You can now edit your document in the Microsoft Office for the web window. All changes are automatically saved to the document. Once you close the editing session, your changes are recorded as a version in Team.
    Note: Each editing session has a 60 minute limit. After 50 minutes, Team will display a warning indicating that the session is set to expire soon.
