Compare Drawing Revisions or Sheets

You can compare a drawing with an earlier revision to see what's changed, or compare it with a separate sheet to identify differences.

With the compare feature, you could compare two drawings that show different aspects of the same building (for example, one for structural and one for plumbing) to identify potential conflicts.
Note: For this feature, Internet Explorer 11 is not supported. Trimble Viewpoint recommends using the Chrome or Firefox browser to compare drawing revisions with Team.
  1. From the home page, under Projects, select the name of the project you want to open.
Alternatively, go to the main menu in the upper left-hand corner, select Projects, and then select the name of the project you want to open.
The Dashboard for the project appears.
  2. Select the Drawings tab.
  3. Click the name of a drawing to open it in the PDF viewer.
  4. (Optional) To compare the current revision with a previous revision, in the Current Drawings panel on the right hand side, select the Compare icon for the drawing you are currently viewing.
    1. In the Select Revision dialog, select the revision you want to use for comparison, and then select Compare.
The selected revision appears as an overlay. The revision you opened is shown in blue and the revision you selected for comparison is shown in red. Areas where the two revisions match are shown in gray. For reference, you can check the key at the bottom of the viewer.

In the following example, the earlier revision shows a door on the left side of the wall, and the later revision shows the door on the right side.

  5. (Optional) To compare the drawing you are viewing with a separate sheet, in the Current Drawings panel on the right hand side, select the Compare icon for the drawing you want to use for comparison.
The selected drawing appears as an overlay. The drawing you opened is shown in blue and the drawing you selected for comparison is shown in red. Areas where the two drawings match are shown in gray. For reference, you can check the key at the bottom of the viewer.
  6. (Optional) If you need to move an overly to make sure the drawings or revisions are aligned directly above one another, you can use the Move Compare Overlay tool to change the placement of the overlay.
Note: Before moving an overlay, it helps to zoom in on the drawing so that you can move the overlay more accurately.
    1. Click the Move Compare Overlay tool .
    2. Click a start point in the drawing overlay, and then click the end point where you want it to move to.
After you release the mouse, the overlay will move according to the selected end point.
You can use other options in the comparison toolbar to scale the comparison overlay, rotate the overlay clockwise or counter-clockwise, or to reset the adjustments.
