Create a Google Map API Key

To enable Location Tracking in Time Worked (Timecards) or when validating addresses in Personal Info, you must create a Google Map API from a Google Map Platform and link it to the portal.

Note: Google Cloud typically allows $200 monthly usage credit. Most API users will not exceed this credit amount.
  1. If you have not used Google Maps Platform APIs before, you will need to sign up for a free Google Cloud Platform, create a billing account, and create a project. For full details from Google follow the first two steps in their article Getting Started with Google Maps Platform.
  2. On your project main page, select APIs on the left.
    1. Select Geocoding API, and select Enable.
    2. Select Maps JavaScript API, and select Enable.
  3. Select the menu button from the upper left , and then select APIs & Services > Auth Consent screen.
    1. Choose User Type External, and then select Create.
    2. Enter an Application Name, Authorized domains and Application Homepage link. Then select Save.
Note: If you are implementing this setup in a cloud installation with multiple different companies, use your viewpointforcloud.com domain in the Authorized domains field.

  4. From the APIs & Services menu, select Credentials.
    1. Select Create Credentials > API Key.
    2. Copy the API Key that displays in the pop-up.
  5. In the portal, select Admin > Portal Settings > Administration / Initial Setup > General Configuration.
  6. Paste the API key that you just copied into the Value field for the portal setting Google Map API Key.
It can take up to 24 hours for your API Key to become active in Google. If your API Key is not active after 24 hours, please contact Google Support.
