About Setting up Material Rate Overrides

Service Management allows you to define markup or discount rates at differing levels to accommodate the special needs of your business.

If you use a standard markup or discount rate for all materials, you can set up a single rate template and specify the markup or discount rate used when capturing material on a work order. You can also set up overrides to the standard rates for equipment, material, labor, and standard items based on effective dates or specific sets of criteria.

If you use different markup or discount rates based on customer, service site, or work order quote, you can set up multiple rate templates to meet these needs and assign them to customers (in the SM Customers form), service sites (in the SM Service Sites form), or work order quotes (in the SM Work Order Quotes form).

The system also allows you to override the standard discount or markup rates for materials based on the material's total or unit cost, or by material or category. These overrides can be set up at the rate template, effective date template, customer, service site, or work order quote levels. When capturing material on work orders, the system determines which rates to use based on the information entered on the work order and work completed lines.

Note: Because standard and override material rates can be set up at different levels, the system uses a specific hierarchy to determine which rates to use when capturing material on a work order. For more information, see Material Rate Hierarchy.
