Vista 2023 R1.07

This release includes regulatory changes for Canada and defect fixes that apply to all geographies.

Updates to Canada T4 Reporting

Beginning tax year 2023, Canada now requires that employers indicate whether an employee or any of their family members were eligible, on December 31 of the tax year, for any dental benefits offered by the employer.

In compliance with this requirement, the following changes were made:

PR Employees

Added a Dental Benefits Code drop-down to the Add'l Info tab for specifying the benefit code offered by the employer to each employee. Options available for selection are:
  • 1-Not Eligible
  • 2-Payee only
  • 3-Payee, spouse, children
  • 4-Payee, spouse
  • 5-Payee, children

The system uses the value in this field to populate the Dental Benefits Code field for the employee in PR Canada T4 Employees.

For more information, see the Dental Benefits Code F1 help.

PR Canada T4

Added a Dental Benefits Code drop-down to the Info tab for specifying the benefit code offered by the employer that is valid for most employees for the selected tax year. The options available for selection are the same as shown in the PR Employees section above.

When you initialize employee slips, the system assigns a dental benefits code to each employee's T4 record (on the T4 Employees tab in PR Canada T4). The code selected here is only assigned to employees that do not have a dental benefits code designated in PR Employees.

For more information, see the Dental Benefits Code F1 help.

PR Canada T4 Employees

Added a Dental Benefits Code drop-down to the T4 Employees tab (in PR Canada T4) for specifying the benefit code offered by the employer that is valid for this employee for the selected tax year. The options available for selection are the same as shown in the PR Employees section above.

When you initialize employee slips, the system populates this field using the dental benefits code designated on the employee's record in PR Employees. If there is no dental benefits code designated in PR Employees, the system assigns the dental benefits code specified for the employer and tax year in PR Canada T4 (Info tab). If there is no dental benefits code designated for the employee in PR Employees or the employer and tax year in PR Canada T4 (Info tab), the system assigns a value of 1-Not eligible.

The dental benefits code specified for the employee is used to populate Box 45 on the employee's T4 slip.

For more information, see the Dental Benefits Code F1 help.

Employee T4 Slip Initialization

Modified the employee T4 slip initialization process, initiated by selecting Initialize Employee Slips in the PR Canada T4 form, to assign a Dental Benefits Code value to each generated employee record. The system populates the Dental Benefits Code field on the T4 Employees tab (in PR Canada T4) as follows:

  • If a dental benefits code is designated for the employee in PR Employees, the system uses the employee's assigned code.
  • If a dental benefits code is not designated in PR Employees, the system assigns the dental benefits code specified for the employer and tax year on the Info tab in PR Canada T4.
  • If no dental benefits code is designated for the employee (in PR Employees) or the employer and tax year (Info tab in PR Canada T4), the system sets the Dental Benefits Code field to 1 - Not eligible.

You may override the defaulted value as needed.

PR Aatrix T4 Print and eFile
When you launch Aatrix from the PR Canada T4 form (Tasks > Launch Aatrix Print and eFile) to generate T4s, the system now includes the new Dental Benefits Code designated for each employee on the T4 Employees tab in the Vista form. Within the Aatrix Canada Preparer, this code appears in Box 45 of the employee's slip record.
IM Template

In support of the new Dental Benefit Codes fields added to PR Employees, the PREmpl (PR Employees) import form now includes a DentalBenefitsCode field (Identifier #385).

You are not required to enter a value in this field; however, if you do enter a value, only values 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are allowed.

Note: Once you install this service pack, the system automatically updates existing templates assigned the PREmpl import form with the new DentalBenefitsCode field.
PR Canada T4 Slip Report

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) revised the T4 Statement of Remuneration Paid (T4 Slip) for tax year 2023 to include a new Box 45 item for mandatory reporting of Employer-offered dental benefits.

In accordance with this change, modifications were made to the PR Canada T4 Slip report (Report ID 1065) to include Box 45. When you run the PR Canada T4 Slip report, Box 45 will show the Dental Benefits Code designated for the employee in PR Canada T4 Employees (the T4 Employees tab on the PR Canada T4 form).

Other changes to this report are as follows:

  • Added Boxes 16A and 17A, intended for reporting CPP2 or QPP2 amounts; however these amounts are not reportable for 2023 and will be blank. They become reportable for the first time during the first two months of calendar year 2025, when employers prepare T4 filings for tax year 2024
  • Updated the report layout to accommodate the new boxes
  • Updated the form version to T4 (23)
PR Canada T4 Slip Review Report

In conjunction with the addition of Box 45 to the PR Canada T4 Slip report, modifications were made to the PR Canada T4 Slip Review report (Report ID 1063) to include a new Employer-offered dental benefits field in the Slip header for each employee.

The system populates the Employer-offered dental benefits field with the dental benefits code designated for the employee in PR Canada T4 Employees (T4 Employees tab in PR Canada T4). If the T4 Employee record has no dental benefits code designated, the report displays the word 'blank' instead.

In addition to this change, updated the report layout so that the Box Items match the order in which they appear on the CRA's 2023 T4 Statement of Remuneration Paid layout.

PR Canada T4 Summary Report

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) revised the T4 Summary of Remuneration Paid (T4 Summary) for tax year 2023 to include two new box items: Box 16A (Employee's second CPP contributions) and Box 27A (Employer's second CPP contributions).

In accordance with this change, modifications were made to the PR Canada T4 Summary report (Report ID 1062) to include Boxes 16A and 27A. However, Box 16A and Box 27A amounts are not reportable for 2023, so they will be set to 0.00. They become reportable for the first time during the first two months of calendar year 2025, when employers prepare T4 filings for tax year 2024. The total deductions reported in Box 80 will exclude amounts for both boxes.

Additionally, updated the form version on both the front and back pages of the T4 Summary to T4 SUM (23).
