Create a Widget

You can create your own custom widget, add it to your widget library, and use it in any custom dashboard you have created.

You can only create a widget from a custom dashboard. For instructions on creating or duplicating a dashboard, see:
Note: At this time, any widgets you create are available only to your user account and cannot be shared.

When you create a widget, you can select one of two widget templates. To learn about each template and view examples, see Custom Widget Templates.

  1. From a custom dashboard (any dashboard you have created or duplicated), select the Manage icon in the upper right-hand corner to enable manage mode.

    The Widget Library opens in the right-hand column.

    Tip: If there are multiple dashboards in a publication site, you can select the dashboard name to view all the available dashboards.
  2. From the Widget Library, select the plus icon to open the Create a Widget page.
  3. On the Create a Widget page, for the General step, enter the widget details and select a widget template.
    1. Under Widget Details, fill in the required fields.
      • Widget Name: Enter a name for the Widget. This text appears as the title of the widget.
      • Widget Icon: Select an icon from the dropdown menu. If you want to filter for icons that conform to the Trimble Modus design system, select the Modus option.
      • Select Categories: Select all the categories from the widget library that apply to the widget, and then select Apply. Once applied, the widget will appear in those categories in your widget library.
    2. In the Widget Template field, select one of the following widget templates:
  4. Select Next to continue to the Configuration step. Currently, neither of the available templates require configuration.
    Select Next again to continue to the Data Provider Details step. The following step varies based on the widget template you selected.
    • For the Link List template, continue to the next step.
    • For the Single Action template, continue to step 6.
  5. Data Provider Details: Link List. If you selected the Link List template, enter the following details.
    Header Options
    When configured, this section puts an add button in the upper right-hand corner of the widget that links to a URL. For example, the button could be linked to a page for creating a new form or report. This section is optional.
    • Widget Header Add Button URL: Enter the URL you want to use for the add button.

    Continue to step 7.

  6. Data Provider Details: Single Action: If you selected the Single Action template, under Widget Data, enter the following details.
    • Action Description: Enter a brief description of the action the widget will perform (for example, "Open SketchUp").
    • Button Display Text: Enter the text you want to appear on the button.
    • URL: Enter the URL that you want to open when the button is selected.
  7. Once you have configured the widget details, select Finish to close the Create a Widget page. From the dashboard, select Save.
    The widget is saved and available in your widget library.
  8. To view the new widget, add it to a dashboard, and then publish the dashboard.
    1. Locate the new widget in your widget library. You can search for a widget by typing the widget name in the Search field, filter by category, or filter for all custom widgets by selecting Type > My Widgets.
    2. From your widget library, select the new widget and drag it onto the dashboard.
      Note that custom widgets are indicated by the private widget icon. . This icon will not display once the dashboard is published.
    3. Select Save to publish the dashboard and view the new widget.
