VFP Mobile

VFP Mobile is a mobile application that enables you to view your Viewpoint For Projects™ documents from anywhere.

With VFP Mobile, you can access important plans from the job site and make decisions while you are actively managing your projects. You can even work offline if needed.

Currently, VFP Mobile can be installed on iOS, Android, and Windows tablet operating systems.

Download VFP Mobile

Each mobile user needs to download and install VFP Mobile on their device.

  1. Open the app store on your device. App store names vary by device type and operating system.
  2. Enter Viewpoint For Projects™ in the Search field and tap the search icon.
  3. Tap on the VFP Mobile app and install it on your device.

Log Into VFP Mobile

Once you have installed VFP Mobile on your mobile device, you can log into the app and use it to view documents.

  1. Tap to open VFP Mobile on your device.
  2. Tap on your region within the list and tap Login.
  3. On the Login screen, enter your Viewpoint For Projects™ username and password and tap Login.

VFP Mobile stores your credentials, so you only need to enter them the first time you access the app.

Navigate VFP Mobile

In VFP Mobile, you can navigate through your sites and projects the same way you would navigate through them on a desktop computer. Once you log in, you select the data center and enterprise to get started. You can then navigate through the site, project, and document containers to access the documents you need.

Note: VFP Mobile does not provide access to your personal container, your inbox, your reports, or personal settings.

Breadcrumbs at the top of the screen keep track of your navigation path. You can tap on a breadcrumb to navigate back to a particular screen.

If you are viewing a document, use the Back arrow to return to the previous page.

When you close the application, VFP Mobile remembers your last location and automatically navigates to that location when you reopen the app.

Note: VFP Mobile does not remember your last location if you have logged out.

View Documents in VFP Mobile

VFP Mobile currently provides access to documents in document containers and dynamic virtual containers.

Document containers are represented by a gray folder icon . When you open a document container in VFP Mobile, the application returns a list of the most recent revisions of the documents in the container.

Dynamic virtual containers are represented by either a blue folder icon or a green folder icon (The latter icon is for dynamic virtual containers configured to provide direct access). The icon for a dynamic virtual container that is public contains an open lock , indicating that individuals who are not Viewpoint For Projects™ users can access the container's contents.

Each document in a container is preceded by a document icon . For each document in the list, you can see the name, description, date created, and revision. Tap on a document in the list to open the most current revision.

When you open a document revision for the first time, VFP Mobile saves it to the cache on the mobile device.

Note: A cache is a place to store something temporarily in a computing environment.

VFP Mobile documents stay cached until you clear the storage on your device or uninstall the application. The cache storage will also be cleared of old documents if it's full and there's no room for new ones.

VFP Mobile references the cache each time you subsequently access the same revision, instead of using your internet connection to access the document on the Viewpoint For Projects™ database. This reduces the access time and improves overall performance. Documents that have been cached are indicated in VFP Mobile by a special icon .

VFP Mobile provides a 100 MB limit for cached documents.

Restriction: Only cached documents are available when working offline.

Work in a Different Enterprise in VFP Mobile

If you have access to more than one enterprise, you can change the enterprise in which you are working in VFP Mobile.

  1. Tap in the upper left corner of the screen.
  2. In the menu, tap Change Enterprise. A list of enterprises you have access to appears.
  3. Tap the enterprise in which you want to work.

The container tree for the selected enterprise is displayed.

Work Offline in VFP Mobile

You can work offline in VFP Mobile if you do not have an internet connection or do not want to use data on your mobile plan. When you work offline, VFP Mobile uses the cache of the mobile device to provide access to documents that you previously opened.

Note: A cache is a place to store something temporarily in a computing environment. Documents are cached to reduce access times and to improve overall performance. Documents that have been cached are indicated in VFP Mobile by a special icon.

When you are working offline, if you attempt to open a document that has not been cached, you will receive an error.

  1. Tap in the upper left corner of the screen.
  2. In the menu, tap Preferences. The Preferences screen appears.
  3. Swipe right on the Work Offline toggle key.
  4. To go back to the list of containers, tap in the upper left corner of the screen and then tap Container Tree in the menu.

When you work offline, a notification that “Viewpoint is Offline” displays along the bottom of the screen.

To work online, repeat the steps above, but in step 3, swipe left.
