Resolving Conflicts by Converting to Revision

If you try to register an item with the same name as one that already exists in the same container, you can resolve the conflict by converting the new item to a revision of the existing item.

This is only available if you are using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Internet Explorer 11.

You'll be able to upload an item with the same name as an existing one in the container, but you'll be asked if you want to convert it to a revision when you register it.

  1. After you upload an item with the same name as an existing item in the same container and then attempt to register it, you'll be given the option to Convert to Revision.
  2. If you want the new item you are registering to become the primary file and the existing item to become a secondary file, click Convert to Revision. Click Cancel to continue registering the new item without making it a revision of the existing one.

    The primary file displays on the Items page of the container. You can view secondary files by right-clicking on the item and selecting Properties.

  3. Finish registering and click Revise Document.
