About Work Completed Item Types

Find information about the fields and options available for each Field Service work item type.

Work item types include Labor, Equipment, Misc, and Inventory. Technicans can also select Collect Signature from the Add Work Completed drop-down field to capture one or more signatures before completing a trip. Depending on portal settings, users may also be able to create new purchase orders for a scope. Fields and options that display for each work item type vary based on Field Service configuration settings.

Work Item Type Description
Labor Saving labor hours saves the information to a PR Timecard Batch and to the SM Work Order (Work Completed tab) in Vista. Users with permission to approve job time can enter labor hours for technicians whose time they are authorized to approve. See Timecard Approval for details.
Equipment The Service Item field defaults to the service item listed on the scope. When you add Equipment work completed to a scope, you can bulk add equipment by selecting the Equipment drop-down field, selecting a piece of equipment, and then selecting the Equipment drop-down field again to add another item. If you edit an existing Equipment work completed item, you can select only one piece of equipment at a time.
Misc Only SM standard items may be selected. When you add Misc work completed to a scope, you can bulk add standard items by selecting the Standard Item drop-down field, selecting an item, and then selecting the Standard Item drop-down field again to add another item. If you edit an existing Misc work completed item, you can select only one standard item at a time. Enable miscellaneous cost types in the Field Service portal setting SM Cost Type Visibility.
Note: Cost Type is required only if the SM Cost Type field is set as required in Vista Field Properties.
Inventory The Location field defaults to the location for the SM Technician in Vista. Technicians can also select No Location from the Location drop-down. When you add Inventory work completed to a scope, you can bulk add materials by selecting the Material drop-down field, selecting a material, and then selecting the Material drop-down field again to add another item. If you edit an existing Inventory work completed item, you can select only one material at a time.
PO Allows technicians to create purchase orders for a scope. Depending on how your portal is configured, you may be able to enter full details for the PO (all PO fields are available and required) or you may be allowed to generate a reserved PO (only the Vendor and PO number are required, and the Date cannot be changed).
Note: Displays only if Allow Creation of New SM PO's has been enabled in your portal.
Collect Signature Allows technicians to collect one or more signatures before completing a trip. Signatures can still be collected at trip closeout but are not required if they have already been collected. Any signatures collected prior to trip closeout will display as read-only in the Signature section of the Trip Closeout page.
Notes If you add notes for a work item type, those notes display on the Work Completed tab (Notes column) of the work order in Vista.
